John and Yana first crossed paths in 2014 at the Leadership Institute, a 45-year-old nonprofit known for its impact in political training and leadership development. Their professional relationship flourished as they tackled challenges together, even as their careers diverged—John advancing through nonprofit leadership roles and Yana making a name for herself in the tech sector, leading teams at Salesforce and multiple startups. Their paths converged again in 2023, when John, then serving as Vice President for Growth at the Leadership Institute, invited Yana back to help optimize a rapidly expanding development team and refine the organization's strategic approach.
Working together, they quickly realized that their complementary skill sets—John’s deep experience in nonprofit strategy and Yana’s operational expertise in high-scale, data-driven environments—created a formula for rapid transformation. Their collaboration led to the realignment of ten divisions, record-breaking revenue growth, and the first-ever clearly defined cultural strategy within the development department.

John Davis: Architect of Nonprofit Growth
For over two decades, John Davis has been at the forefront of organizational strategy and fundraising innovation. His career spans both programmatic and development leadership, but his real expertise lies in transforming nonprofit revenue models.
At the Leadership Institute, John spearheaded the Leaders for America capital campaign—an initiative that redefined the organization's trajectory. Under his leadership, the development department raised $52 million in 2024, nearly doubling its revenue from 2021 and increasing by 643% since John took over the Donor Communications team in 2011.
John’s deep understanding of donor psychology and major gifts strategy is rooted in both practical experience and academic study. Over the past four years, he has deepened his expertise while attending the Steve and Amy Van Andel Graduate School of Government at Hillsdale College in Washington, D.C.
John lives in Falls Church, Virginia, with his wife, Emily, and their eight children. His professional drive leaves little room for hobbies—unless you count fundraising strategy as a hobby, which, let’s be honest, John just might.
Yana Myaskovskaya: Scaling Nonprofits with Business-Grade Strategy
Yana Myaskovskaya brings a Silicon Valley mindset to nonprofit transformation. A seasoned tech executive, she has spent her career leading high-growth teams across four startups, six funding rounds, an acquisition, and a company’s rise to unicorn status.
Her ability to navigate complex implementation and revenue expansion made her a sought-after leader in the tech sector. But at heart, Yana has always been passionate about applying business best practices to nonprofit growth—a conviction she tested firsthand as Chief of Staff, Development at the Leadership Institute.
Having started her career as the youngest museum curator on the East Coast, Yana has a unique perspective on blending creativity with operational precision. She is, by all accounts, impossible to faze—an invaluable trait in the world of nonprofit consulting, where shifting priorities and unexpected challenges are the norm.
